KAWS, born Brian Donnelly, is a contemporary American artist and designer whose work bridges the worlds of street art, pop culture, and fine art. He first gained recognition in the 1990s by subverting advertisements in public spaces with his own cartoon-like characters, most notably the now-iconic “Companion” figure, characterized by its skull-and-crossbones head and X-ed out eyes.

Over the years, KAWS has developed a unique visual language that reimagines familiar pop culture icons through a playful yet emotionally resonant lens. His work spans a wide range of mediums—including painting, sculpture, vinyl toys, and fashion collaborations—and has been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, making him one of the most influential and commercially successful artists of his generation.
